Section 125 "Cafeteria Plans"

Section 125, also know as a flexible benefit plan, allows employees to choose from a selection of benefits which are paid for with pre-tax dollars.  It is often referred to as a Cafeteria Plan because there is a menu of expenses from which to choose.  These expenses can come from one or all of the following categories:

  • Insurance Premiums: medical, dental, life and disability.
  • Dependent Care: up to $5,000 of dependent [child or adult] care.
  • Unreimbursed Medical Expenses: qualified expenses can be paid pre-tax [ex. office visit,  co-payments, glasses, prescription drugs, and out-of-pocket expenses]
